Revision as of 21:22, 8 July 2005

A Flag is a collection of crews who ostensibly work together for mutual benefit or protection, but it is actually a social grouping more than anything else. They are the largest political units in the game, and often band together to form alliances for mutual protection or benefit. Flags are the only political units that can blockade an island to take control of it, and flags are also the only groupings that may go to war with one another.

Flag Structure

By game mechanic, there are three ranks that may be awarded to any individual pirate within a flag.

The Monarch of a flag is usually the one in charge of said flag, though this is not always the case, and they may be merely a figurehead depending on the way the flag has been organized.

Royalty in a flag - that is, the Princes and Princesses of that flag - are the members who vote on all flag issues. An autocratic flag can exist only by not having Royalty, leaving the monarch with the sole vote on those issues.

Titled Members are the Lords and Ladies of the flag, and this position conveys nothing through the game mechanic except words on the pirate's information page.

How to Become Part of a Flag

Presuming that a crew has enough fame, a crew may join a flag if it is invited. (Of course, it may also petition for such an invitation.)

Additionally, a crew may create its own flag, though the required level of fame for this action is much higher. On doubloon oceans, the cost to create a flag is twenty doubloons.

Flag Game Mechanics

The most important mechanic for the average flag member is the flag officer chat channel. This is a chat channel that allows any member of the flag ranked officer or higher in their respective crews to chat, making it easier to socialize with their flagmates.

There are also two chat channels available only to royalty (and the monarch) of a flag, the royalty chat channel (/royalty or just /r) which only royalty can see and the flag broadcast (/fb) channel, which all members of the flag will see.
